I have just finished reading the Mother Angelica book by Raymond Arroyo. I highly recommend it. I hope Mr Arroyo will eventually write a follow-up book as Mother still has life in her yet and I am sure there is more to come. God's role in setting up EWTN is made clear and He has used this channel to educate so many uneducated Catholics and call many home.
Many people see TV and the media as a whole as belonging to the devil- there is so much there that is obviously from him - but I have often said to those who say this that there is no reason to let him have such a powerful tool without a fight. Mother Angelica and those who generously gave her millions of dollars to built TV and radio stations have snatched back a chunk of this tool and are using it for God's work - the same can be said of the Net where so much evil is poured out - there is also so much good and holy to be found here.
The behaviour of the American bishops is sadly unsurprising. The scandals have already shone a spotlight on how unholy many are, but I was very disappointed in Bishop Foley. I thought his disloyalty to Mother petty. He could have been a spiritual father and a source of strength to her. I don't understand why he did not take up the baton and fight alongside her. Still, he seems to have loved her in the end.
Her suffering and her willingness to offer her pain was inspiring- but I think those who do not understand the context of offering up suffering will balk at this in the book.
The book has inspired me to go back to my own writing.

Oh my goodness, this post is a year old.
I have this book on audio CD. I started to listen to the CD but never finished it. I have so many books that I want to read but haven't finished. I like having the audio CD for the book better as my eyes start to close once I start reading. Not good.
Peace & God bless Sandy

I've listened to this book on CD twice, and each time I come away with a new appreciation for what a holy and charismatic woman Mother Angelica is. She knew nothing about mass media, but created the world's largest religious broadcasting empire - TV, Radio, and Internet.
She has seen St. Michael, and has had more than one miracle performed in her life. Truly an inspiring story. 5 star recommendation.

I agree - this book is wonderful, and Mother Angelica is truly impressive. My favorite thing about her is how she is unafraid to stand for the truth and for orthodoxy in the faith. If only more Catholics would be the same way...
Jesus meek and humble of heart, make my heart like yours. |
