With great joy I read this, this morning,

"Being Religious Interreligiously"
Bishops’ Doctrine Committee corrects theologian for relativistic book

Washington DC, Dec 11, 2007 / 11:40 am (CNA).- The Doctrine Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has examined a work of theologian Father Peter C. Phan, “Being Religious Interreligiously: Asian Perspectives on Interfaith Dialogue.”

What I find very disturbing, are the very words of Fr. Phan, "In his book, Father Phan had qualified the uniqueness of Christ, saying that terms referring to Christ as “unique” “absolute” and “universal” “should be removed and replaced by other, theologically more adequate equivalents.”

The Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is about to issue a new document precisely rejecting this type of thinking. The new document will make emphasis on Dominus Iesus, the document that caused consternation among ignorant Catholics and ignorant non-Catholics a few years ago.

OK - I'm not surprised to learn the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will reject such nonsense, but I must admit pleasant surprise that the USCCB does, if for no other reason than they usually aren't that committed to anything specifically lest they offend someone.

Jesus meek and humble of heart, make my heart like yours.

It is indeed surprising to me these bishops are suddenly not afraid to offend Father Phan!!!!!
