Mary’s Immaculate Heart is one of the greatest gifts which the heavenly Father offers us. It is our safest refuge and a means of salvation, which at this time, God gives to the Church and to humanity.
The Immaculate Heart is the gate of Heaven through which passes the Spirit of Love of the Father and of the Son, coming to us to renew the whole world.
We should enter, therefore, through the heavenly gate of Mary’s Immaculate Heart, if we wish to participate in the Divine prodigy, the new Pentecost for the Church and the complete renewal of the world.
Pope John Paul II said at Fatima on May 13, 1982 that:
When Jesus on the cross said: “Woman, behold your Son” (Jn. 19:26), in a new way He opened His Mother’s heart, the Immaculate Heart, and revealed the new dimensions and extent of the love to which she was called in the Holy Spirit by the power of the sacrifice of the cross.
It is for this reason that Jesus has requested the addition of the word “Sorrowful” to Our Lady’s title of “the Immaculate Heart of Mary”.
Jesus said to Bertha Petit, a Belgian mystic, on September 8, 1911 that: The Heart of my Mother has the right to be called Sorrowful and I wish this title placed before that of Immaculate because she has won it herself…She has earned it by her identification with my sorrows, by her sufferings: by her sacrifices and her immolation on Calvary endured in perfect correspondence with my grace for the salvation of mankind.
Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart is sorrowful in fulfillment of Simeon’s prophecy (Lk 2:35) because of sins, ingratitude, sacrileges, betrayals, and the insults against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against her divine and universal motherhood, against her images and because, above all, the souls of the little ones are being alienated from her.
Our Lady manifested her Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart at Fatima on June 13, 1917 in front of the palm of her left hand. Her Heart was encircled by thorns, which pierced it representing the sins of humanity.
All sufferings of the Church are in Her Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart. We should embrace these sufferings with our own weak human hearts as we place ourselves before the mystery of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and make reparation to her through prayer and sacrifice.
We should respond with filial love and gratitude to her maternal love which intercedes for us, and rescues, supports and strengthens us. If we love her we should consecrate ourselves to her Immaculate Heart. Why? Simply because God wants us to do so!
