I was looking on a site about food storage, and in the grain section, it mentioned the types of corn that are good for storage.
Does anyone happen to know what type of corn is packaged on the cob in big bags for squirrel feeders? I think it's dent corn, but I'm not sure. Would it be OK for human use if stored, and does anyone know how long it can be safely stored?

Shawna, I don't personally know, but my husband, who is in Europe on business, may. I'll copy and paste your question and send it to him.... can't promise, but maybe....

Shawna, Field corn or corn grown for animal consumption can be any of many different varieties of which almost all are Hybrids which will yeild poor quality seed for future planting. Unfortunately the same is true for sweet corn that is grown for human consumption. Look for a variety that lacks Hybrid in its description and ask the question Can I save new seed for future planting. Buying directly from a seed company will get you the seed you need. My brother owned such a company for 3 years. Good luck in your effort to store some quality seed for a time that may be closer than we think! Tired Carpenter
