The Problem of Suffering
SermonNo: 399, 08/31/2008

Most of the great religions and philosophies of the world center around the issue of suffering. Stoicism, Buddhism, Platonism all propose different paths to overcome suffering. Jesus proposes to his disciples the distinctively Christian path of embracing suffering in the act of self-sacrificial love.

Going to Communion every day for so many years! Anybody else would be a saint by now, you told me, and I ... I'm always the same! Son, I replied, keep up your daily Communion, and think: what would I be if I had not gone?

Come Holy Spirit ...Come by the means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well beloved Spouse.

Learning about suffering is very difficult. I like his statement about a passion for justice not stoic resignation to accept things the way they are. Sacrifice as a path past suffering to salvation. Don’t be stoic, follow the teaching lose your life in love. Interesting.
