There's Probably No God - So Enjoy Your Life Apparently a series of Christian ads recently featured on London buses rankled Richard Dawkins, because he and other non-believers joined forces to raise money to counter those ads with an atheistic message. "There's probably no God," the ads proclaim. "Now stop worrying and enjoy your life." You may see the ad for yourself at the end of this blog.
Dawkins, who is a biologist at Oxford University, gave $9,000 out of his own pocket for the campaign, and the donations, totalling $113,000, have exceeded the campaign's expectations. According to the campaign organizer, Ariane Sherine, the advertisements will also "feature the URLs of secular, humanist and atheist websites, so that readers can find out more about atheism as a positive and liberating alternative to religion."
However, some commentators think that the ads will do little to change minds, and might even send the opposite message to readers. Dr. Albert Mohler said that Dawkins "seems to risk becoming a parody of himself" through the ads and said that he "cannot imagine that these signs would prompt a wholesale resurgence of atheism."
In fact, the religious think tank group Theos told FOX News that they donated $82 toward the campaign, saying it was so bad it would likely attract people to God. Theos director Paul Woolley said, "Stunts like this demonstrate how militant atheists are often great adverts for Christianity."

I see Mr. Dawkins is SO "certain" in his belief that there is no God that he needed to use the word "probably." Not exactly a ringing endorsement for atheism. Makes me chuckle. On a UK Catholic forum I visit, most of the locals are laughing at the very idea and its weak expression.

God, humbug: Humanist holiday ads say just be good HomesInAnnapolis.com
Riva
Gambrills By ERIC GORSKI, AP Religion Writer Published November 12, 2008 You better watch out. There is a new combatant in the Christmas wars. Ads proclaiming, "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake," will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.
In lifting lyrics from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," the Washington-based group is wading into what has become a perennial debate over commercialism, religion in the public square and the meaning of Christmas.
"We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you," said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. "Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion."
To that end, the ads and posters will include a link to a Web site that will seek to connect and organize like-minded thinkers in the D.C. area, Edwords said.
