Naughty or Nice? AFA's 2008 listing of top retailers and how they recognize Christmas
Based on current advertising, below is a list of companies that avoid, ban, or use the term "Christmas" in their advertising. We urge you to contact the "naughty" companies by using the contact information provided below. We will continually update the list, so check back often.
Criteria - AFA reviewed up to four areas to determine if a company was "Christmas-friendly" in their advertising: print media (newspaper inserts), broadcast media (radio/television), website and/or personal visits to the store. If a company's ad has references to items associated with Christmas (trees, wreaths, lights, ect.), it was considered as an attempt to reach "Christmas" shoppers.
If a company uses the term "Christmas" on a regular prominent basis, we consider that company Christmas friendly. If it failed in two of the three catagories, we do not consider that company Christmas friendly.
A company may be removed from the "bad" list by providing documention to AFA.
*Some companies may use "Christmas" sparingly in a single or unique product description, but as a company, does not recognize it.
Companies against "Christmas"

Sad! I think I'm going to do an experiement with Best Buy and try to get employees to say "Merry Christmas." I've heard they are told, and quite often, that they cannot. I just don't get it. The "Holiday" is Christmas.... urgh....
Take Care and God Bless, Sarah

Well what holiday are they celebrating? 4th of July in December?? I see signs for holiday bazaars selling such items as poinsettia's et al for which other holiday are these for? Someone will not be happy until they have secularized Christmas

I have my own personal method of determining who is for and against Christmas. Several years ago, I decided to go to stores to see who carried Nativity scenes and who did not. COSCO, who is on the 'bad boy list above' actually carries one of the most beautiful Nativity scenes I have ever seen. It is huge and elegant and priced within reason. They call it their signature Nativity scene and they have carried it every year since I've been shopping there. I will continue to shop COSTCO and will probably break down and buy one of these sets this year since they go fast. I waited last year until it was too late and they were all gone.

I like Doc's method. We are careful about where we shop, however, it's clear that each individual must Christianize our world. Are we observing Advent? Saving Christmas decorations and music for the Season of Christmas? Going to Confession? Joining processions for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe? Etc.

Most of these stores will do what they have to do to sell. They'll call it whatever in order for the them to move stuff off the shelves. They know this is there 'bread and butter' time and it is Christmas where they make there money. But they are afraid of offending a few so they dont call it CHRISTmas anymore.

Will we hear happy holidays after December 25th? NO
I guess it is implied by polar bears/ snowflakes/ snowmen that when they say happy holidays it is code for Christmas yet we can't mention Christ to offend someone

Costco says 'No' to Christmas...literally
December 2, 2008
Dear Gerry,
Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find "Christmas" in a single store.
That's because Costco says it will not use the term "Christmas" on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic "holiday" verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.
Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question – "Does Costco use the word 'Christmas' in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That's a pretty simple question, yes or no."
Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, "I guess the answer would be No."
Rosacrans said, "Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us."
Costco wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists. afa.com

I wonder if it is not as much whomever has a 'war' on Christ/ Christmas that are removing Christ from Christmas/ Easter/ Society/ etc--but the so-called catholics/ christians who it is not bothering. Maybe they prefer to have a Christ-less Christmas? I guess celebrating a secular Christmas may in some way be easier?

Christmas comes to Costco!
December 15, 2008
Dear Gerry,
Thanks to your faithful actions, Costco is now recognizing Christmas in a big, new way!
Two weeks ago, their website and store was practically absent of any references to “Christmas.” Today, you’ll find Christmas prominently featured on their website and email promotions. And, if you call their corporate offices, you’ll be greeted with “Merry Christmas from Costco!”
One unnamed store manager said, “The company has received so many e-mails and complaints that they are changing all their holiday cakes to say Merry Christmas and will be saying it in the stores.”
Learn which companies are celebrating Christmas with you by visiting our “Naughty and Nice” store listing today.
Again, thanks for taking action. Your efforts are making a difference! We have thanked Costco on your behalf. If you'd like to thank them personally, they may be contacted through their website at www.costco.com.
Thank you for caring enough to get involved. If you feel our efforts are worthy of support, would you consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us continue?
Sincerely,
Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman American Family Association

Yule Log : A Seasonal Potpourri
Tuesday, December 16, 2008; C01
The advent of the holidays has caused the following to occur:
Sales of atheist Christmas cards are booming. The designs include one of a red-nosed reindeer with the message: "The red nose isn't weird. . . . It's an evolutionary advantage."
"Nearly 15 percent of Americans identify themselves as nonreligious, but surveys have consistently shown that 95 percent of Americans celebrate Christmas," says Andrew Shaffer of the Order of St. Nick greeting-card company. "That's nearly 30 million atheists, agnostics, secularists, skeptics and humanists who are being overlooked by mainstream card companies."

Maybe it's just that I'm in a small town in a more conservative part of the country, but around here it is not at all uncommon to be greeted with "Merry Christmas in the stores - and not necessarily from just Christians, either. Yes, I admit that from my time in the bigger cities I have run into the "Happy Holidays" greeting on more than one occasion. I have occasionally asked the clerk point blank, "Which holidays?" just to see how they respond. Around here, though, no such luck. lol.

I think Miller Lite has the worse commercials--praising something like the best holiday drink/ beer of the season--which holiday and for which season? Could be a 4th of July Beer in Summer
