Peace to all,
As I was looking at my usual news sites, Spirit Daily one of my top ones to view, I could not help but think of how divided we are as a Catholic people. The recent election shows how much (54%) divided we were. With the Bishops in the US not speaking firmly and directly and addressing the Communion issue with so-called pro-choice Catholics, a kind of perfect storm came together. I am still reeling from the fact that Catholics and other Christians voted for the most pro-choice candidate in the US Congress. Amazing.
America too is greatly divided. It seems that we simply cannot get our act together and if we were serious about it, we would note that all our problems began when God was shoved out of the picture. He is still being shoved but one day, known to Him alone, He will 'push back' I am sure. He appears to be leaving us to our own choices since He respects free will so much. But when it comes to altering nature and life forms, especially relative to abortion and stem cells, perhaps He will make a direct move to correct our errant ways. A loving Father would do such a thing; He is our loving Father.
In the last fifty or so years, I have (along with many others in my age cohort) watched sadly the gradual erosion of all that America once stood for. I stopped at a pizza shop yesterday for a bite and since the place was empty, began talking with the owner. He said business has been bad from Mondays to Thurdays since people are watching their money more. How sad. He is a young man with a family. His cook joined us in the dining room as we chatted. The cook is also a young family man with two children. Both said that they have seen nothing like this in their (short) lifetimes.
I related how we use to make our own refrigerators, televisions and radios, other appliances as well as once had seven or so auto manufacturers. They didn't know that. They're from a time when almost everything has been imported. The happy days of the 1950s when I was a young boy attending Catholic school when Nuns looked like Nuns and high school when Priests and Brothers wore habits too, are long gone and how sad. The visible witness of the Church that Nuns provided just walking down the street in town or shopping in supermarkets was a statement of visibility. It is gone now. Most of us wouldn't know a Nun if we fell over her today.
My basic point is that we are a divided people and divided people tend to scatter and scurry from here to there. The sense of community and family is lost in the division. We have seen this on a smaller scale with the absence of family meals together save for major holidays and feasts such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Where are the Sunday dinners at least?
Yes, it is true the economic conditions are not good and probably will only improve a little but then collapse. Bailouts are not the answer any more than all the other socialistic proposals. God alone is the answer and until America (and the world) quit murdering little babies and violating God's Commandments with same-sex unions, and all the other New Age garbage, and as long as Catholics continue to ignore Mass and the Sacraments, Adoration and Catholic devotions such as the Rosary and Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, we cannot expect conditions to improve.
Like Ninevah, we need to put on sackcloth and ashes, drop to our knees and beg God's mercy after full repentance. Unless we as a people turn around, we cannot expect God to continue to bless us as a Nation. God is quite clear: "If My people, who are called by My Name will humble themselves, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land." Most americans still know nothing about the Pres. Elect. It was the media and vast amounts of money that made the outcome of the election, plus the fact that it was a democratic year.
The Pres. Elect has made the head of Emily's List as his WH Communications Director. Emily's List exists to bring back partial birth abortion and abortion.
He is keeping with the present financial strategies of Pres. Bush and his war policies for the time being due to the economy.
So, Pres Bush is still with us, but abortion is now a top priority along with gay rights, the change so promised. Very said

It's all about Jesus. The key is to get your priorties straight. Seek first the Lord then all things will be added to you. The Lord is my confidence, my foot shall not be caught. Fear is the trap, satan the hunter. We are victorious in the cross.
