I have been having a discussion with a friend regarding Maria Valtorta, who was born in 1897 in Caserta, Italy. In 1916 the Lord attracted her to Himself by means of a dream which was to remain vivid throughout her life. In an evangelical vision, which seemed to anticipate the waking visions of her literary work, Jesus aided Maria with words of admonishment and piety. Her most famous work is The Poem of the Man-God. http://www.valtorta.org/about_the_author_defaultpage.asp During the course of our discussion we have been talking about authority and discernment as to what should be avoided, in terms of what we read as we continue our journey toward holiness. I asked my friend about a website http://www.bardstown.com/~brchrys/ featuring some of Marias writings and he suggested I avoid it because of a criticism from Fr. Mitch Pacwa on EWTN. The website does however have the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur from Bishop Danylak. While this mark doesn’t actually endorse writing as factual it should be an indication that the material is not opposed to Catholic teaching. What do you think, EWTN or the Imprimatur?
